ExxonMobil starts installation of processing equipment at the 90,000 tons per year tackifier plant in Singapore
Project continues on-schedule for 2017 startup
Over one million worker hours completed
Capacity of 90,000 tons per year of Escorez™ tackifying resins
Installation of the processing equipment has started at ExxonMobil’s new hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin production facility at its Singapore chemical plant. Now that much of the structural steel is installed, the first of the “heavy lifts” can take place. These are the pressure vessels, including the feed preparation and polymerization reactors, and the distillation towers.
Installed first will be three dimerizer reactors, each 30 meters high, which will be used to purify the feed for polymerization. Then the 20 meter distillation towers will be set. Once these are in place, more than 200 additional pieces of process equipment are scheduled to be sited.
“With the installation of the processing equipment beginning, the plant will really start coming together,” said Julie Jackson, adhesives global marketing manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Company. “A central part of the plant is the processing equipment, so this is a very exciting step forward.”
The project, now with over one million worker hours completed, remains on schedule for its 2017 start-up.
“In the next 15 years, global demand for hydrogenated tackifiers is expected to double. This new facility, with a capacity of 90,000 tons per year of Escorez™ tackifying resins, combined with two other manufacturing facilities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon, France will help ExxonMobil meet its customers’ needs,” said Franky Dauw, adhesives global sales manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Company.
Escorez resins are used in hot melt adhesives for a wide range of packaging, nonwovens and woodworking applications, helping to improve everyday life for people all over the world.
