ExxonMobil Chemical erects first steel at the world’s largest tackifier plant in Singapore

Project continues on-schedule for 2017 startup
Construction workforce to more than triple
Capacity of 90,000 tons per year of Escorez™ tackifying resins

The first steel is rising at ExxonMobil Chemical’s new hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin production facility at its Singapore chemical plant. The first steel is set for the interconnecting pipelines and superstructure to the new tackifier production unit. The foundation steel will then progress in phases as construction develops for the new polymer unit. The project is on schedule, with completion expected in 2017.

About 3.3 million pounds of steel will be used to build the plant and the construction workforce will more than triple.

“With a firm foundation set and above-ground construction starting, the plant is now starting to take shape,” said Matthew Loach, adhesives global marketing manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Company. “Once the steel structure is well underway the size of this tackifier plant, the largest in the world, will be appreciated.”

“Global demand for hydrogenated tackifiers is expected to double in the next 15 years. This new facility, with a capacity of 90,000 tons per year of Escorez™ tackifying resins, will help ExxonMobil meet its customers’ needs,” said Franky Dauw, adhesives global sales manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Company.

“The new plant will complement two other strategically located manufacturing facilities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon, France,” said Loach. “As the majority of global growth for specialty tackifiers used in the adhesives industry is expected in Asia, Singapore is an optimal base for this new facility.”

Escorez resins are used in hot melt adhesives for a wide range of packaging, nonwovens and woodworking applications, helping to improve everyday life for people all over the world.
